05/20/23 Fly Fishing Report for Yellowstone National Park

Fly Fishing Report – 05/20/23

The National Park’s general fishing season starts in a week from today, or May 27th, and last through October 31st. Some streams and lakes don’t open until June 15, and a few others don’t open until July 15. Perfect Fly will be happy to help you get prepared with all the right gear and equipment you will need if you call 800 594 4726 or email us at: sales@perfectflystore.com.

Almost always, the most popular stream to fish at the first of the season is the Firehole River. It is the first one to clear from snow melt. It normally provides anglers with some very good dry fly fishing thanks some prolific hatches. Firehole action is usually good until the end of June. The lower part of the Gibbon and lower part of the Madison River will also be popular spots to fish.
