Little Yellow Stoneflies (Perlodidae Family)
The Periodidae family of stoneflies is properly called "Little Yellow Stoneflies". Often
anglers incorrectly refer to just about any of the species of Little Yellow Stoneflies as
"Yellow Sallies". The Yellow Sallies are species of the Perlodidae Isoperla genus of
stoneflies or the Stripetails.
These species of Little Yellow Stoneflies have been found in Wyoming. I am not at all
certain that they all exist in Yellowstone National Park but I would guess that most of
them are. I am listing these only to point out that there are a lot of different species of
Little Yellow Stoneflies. Fortunately, they all are very similar in looks and behavior, so it
is not important to know them by species.
